AQUATHERM TECHINCAL ANNOUNCEMENT: RED-WHITE VALVES AND AQUATHERM
Polypropylene ball valve with brass internal components, PP body and sockets
Model 500AB, ½-2 inch
This valve line has been introduced in North America recently, raising numerous questions regarding the
use of these valves with Aquatherm piping.
The following should be considered when discussing these valves:
- According to the manufacturer’s website, the valves are listed to IAPMO IGC-157 which may or may not be applicable in certain plumbing and mechanical codes.
- The valves are listed to NSF 372 for the brass components containing less than 0.25% lead.
- The valves appear to be standard port rather than full port, so the ID inside the ball is smaller than the pipe ID. This will increase the friction loss through these valves compared to a full port valve.
- The warranty on the valves is limited to replacement of the valve. It is unclear as to whether the warranty period is one year or ten years.
With regard to the Aquatherm warranty, the use of these valves will not void the Aquatherm warranty on
the Aquatherm products. Of course, the Aquatherm warranty does not apply to these valves or any
connections made between these valves and Aquatherm piping.
