FUSING AQUATHERM UV PIPING - Aquatherm

FUSING AQUATHERM UV PIPING

TECHNICAL BULLETIN: 201603C-AQTTB

Date Issued: 29 March 2016

Aquatherm offers Ultraviolate (UV) resistant piping in SDR 7.4 MF Faser Green Pipe, SDR 7.4/SDR 11 MF Faser Blue Pipe, and SDR 17.6 MF Faser Blue Pipe. Each of these pipes have a black HDPE outer layer (approximately 1 mm thick) that covers the pipe offering protection of the pipe from damaging UV rays.

When fusing Aquatherm UV pipe some special considerations need to be observed.

Socket Fusion
When socket fusing UV pipe, the HDPE outer layer must be peeled back to at least the point of insertion into the socket. A good sharp knife will do the job. Refer to the Installer Manual for more detailed instructions.

Note that the couplings and fittings will not need to be protected from UV exposure.

Butt Fusion
When performing butt fusion of the UV pipe, there is no need to remove the HDPE outer layer. It will shift out the welding zone during the bead-up/adjustment phase. There may still be some remains of HDPE on the heating iron after the weld is complete, so it would be prudent to clean the iron with a lintfree cloth after each weld, or chamfer the pipe end slightly to avoid HDPE contact with the iron.

Note that the Butt fusion bead will not need to be protected from UV exposure.
