Compressed Air Applications

Easy-to-install Aquatherm PP-R and PP-RP (RCT) piping is corrosion-free and lightweight. This makes it a great alternative to steel for compressed air systems.

Whether it’s light or heavy industry, automotive, manufacturing, aviation, or any other compressed air application, Aquatherm’s PP-R and PP-RP (RCT) provides tangible advantages over traditional pipe systems, including excellent total installed costs and ease of maintenance. Aquatherm piping systems are delivering compressed air in systems nationwide.

For low pressure systems, use Aquatherm Blue Pipe MF SDR 11, and for increased pressure capabilities, use Blue Pipe RP MF SDR 9, or Green Pipe MF SDR 7.4.  Please refer to the Aquatherm Design and Planning Guide for pressure ratings and acceptable use temperature range.

For more information regarding Aquatherm piping for compressed gas systems (air and inert gases) and using compressed gas for pressure testing, view this technical bulletin.

Warning: Failure of a compressed gas (air or inert gas) system can be extremely violent and dangerous. In a compressed gaseous media piping system, energy is applied to compress the gaseous media in addition to pressurizing the system. If failure occurs, both energies can be suddenly released and can be extremely violent compared to failure during leak testing or system operation with an incompressible liquid media.

Aquatherm recommends that thermoplastics piping intended for the transport of compressed air or other compressed gases should be installed by burial, encasement in shatter-resistant material or other appropriate means, to prevent or minimize the possibility of mechanical damage. The piping must also be protected from other sources of degradation such as ultraviolet light (UV) exposure, chemical effects, temperature and oxidation.
