Aquatherm and Hanger Spacing
201209A – AQTTB
Date Issued: 13 September 2012
New Construction
Pipes typically are found in groups of various sizes running side by side. This can ease installation by allowing multiple pipes to rest on a single trapeze pipe support. But every differing pipe size has different support spacing, complicating this approach. Aquatherm has developed a simple cost effective solution for hanging pipes. We determined that two trapeze hangers per pipe would make installation simple, while avoiding unnecessary hangers. This means a trapeze every 6.5 feet (2 meters). In order to allow our smaller diameter pipes to span the extra distance beyond the recommended spacing, we recommend using pipe supports such as manufactured by Walraven BISMAT 5000. By installing the appropriate sized Pipe Support at each trapeze, all size pipes with any water temperature can be supported every 6.5 feet.

Re-piping Projects
On projects where copper pipe is being replaced, it is usually desirable to reuse the existing pipe supports. The difference in recommended hanger spacing between copper and Aquatherm makes this difficult. By using the Pipe Supports, the recommended spacing for Aquatherm Piping Systems can equal or exceed the recommended copper spacing as illustrated on the next page.

The example table below gives the length of each size of pipe reinforcement for each pipe diameter along with the resulting minimum hanger spacing. Also in the table is the typical hanger spacing allowed for copper tube.
